This past Saturday DCU Lions ventured through the corridors of Jesus College to the rugby pitches beyond, where we battled it out with their ultimate team.

It was an entertaining game with a nice mix of experience and new talent on both sides. Both teams played with small squads -- this was a real test of fitness but everyone made it through all right. We started strongly with our experienced handlers making pinpoint passes into the Jesus end zone past their man D, and despite losing Kaustuv to a supervision made it to halftime up 7-3.

Our mixed-experience Lions squad made a strong start to the college league season, reaching the hard cap of 13 points on a breezy Saturday afternoon on Parker's Piece. ChrEmBroke showed up with impressive numbers and enthusiasm, compared to a fairly small Lions squad, but our greater experience and disk skills resulted in the points quickly resolving in our favour. Highlights of the match included Callahans for Tejas and Gonzo, point blocks for everyone, and some calm play and great throws and catches from our freshers - Tom, Mark and Aimee.

Match Reporters' Log, Stardate 26/2/12

In a vital match for DCU, the 1 v 8 match, DCU came out with a pretty hard
fought victory against a Churchill side stronger than their seeding
suggested.

Churchill came into the contest on the back of a series of wins, including
a walk over of Darkside to get into the top 8. Like DCU, their confidence
was high and a good match ensued.

Our time at Winter Cuppers, though burned into all our memories, is
worth writing up for posterity. So here's the story of DCU Lions at
Winter Cuppers 2011:

The day was overcast. The hour was lunchtime. And the stage was set for possibly the worst cult mash-up of all time: Gryffindor versus the Imperial Federation. What’s that? Oh... I mean, Downing Lions versus Darkside.

On this grey day, the Lions of Downing prowled their way to Jesus, then to Jesus green due to rugby people, in search of a win to guarantee them a good group place.
