DCU Lions 10 - 5 Jesus

This past Saturday DCU Lions ventured through the corridors of Jesus College to the rugby pitches beyond, where we battled it out with their ultimate team.

It was an entertaining game with a nice mix of experience and new talent on both sides. Both teams played with small squads -- this was a real test of fitness but everyone made it through all right. We started strongly with our experienced handlers making pinpoint passes into the Jesus end zone past their man D, and despite losing Kaustuv to a supervision made it to halftime up 7-3.

Jesus tried varying their defense, asking their experience players to poach under and deep, but after a quick explanation of how to split a poach this was easily dealt with. Despite a tall Jesus squad who pulled off some really crazy catches, we did a great job cutting off their deep options with solid forces and hard running on D. Our freshers really took control of the game as we closed it out -- Mark had some insane grabs off deep shots, Tom Chudley scored his first DCU goal, and Sona did pretty well for marking someone with several years more experience than her. By the end of the match we were pretty tired (Tom Hayes was especially broken, with the nasty combination of a hangover and shin splints) but pleased with the result, and a well spirited Jesus team joined us for a round of Gunshow, which may or may not have been won by Will Benfold.

So anyway well done everyone as always, special mention goes to our women, Sona, Joanna and Helen who every point were marking either the two very experienced Jesus women, or a guy -- well done for keeping up!

MVP: Mark Selby (at this rate he's going to be winning this every week!)
