Jesus 5 - 13 DCU Lions

Oh hey DCU, let me tell you a tale.

On this grey day, the Lions of Downing prowled their way to Jesus, then to Jesus green due to rugby people, in search of a win to guarantee them a good group place.

We played Jesus, and for those of you expecting a slew of puns regarding this, I'm afraid I will have to disappoint you. I will be avoiding them religiously.

From the pull, Downing surged inexorably into a lead, our handly and cutting (w)holy putting us on a different level to our opposion, surging into a three point lead, with a trinity of good points. Jesus then pulled one back after a sinfully lazy bit of marking by someone. (I jest, I thought it was going out too)

With only Kat holding up the female side of lions, often we found ourselves outnumbered after scoring points, six against seven. But a powerful zone, rotating between chases allowed us to really pressurise their handly, forcing sketchy throws between handles, and blocking progress up the pitch.

At half time, with a 7-2 lead, Lions looked set to continue their domination. Which to be frank, we did. Three good points saw a 10-2 lead, and a good shot at taking a huge victory.

But Jesus ressurected their chances after these three points, and a tiring Lions side lost focus as much better handling and passing saw Jesus drag back three points in a row.

But some cool heads, and neat cutting saw the Lions home to a 13-5 victory, Nick Owen catching the winning point, after pretty much calling it from the start.

It was a good all-round performance, Louis and James learning their trade in the wall of the zone quickly and effectively, Kat, Tom Talbot and Dan providing excellent wing coverage, and myself and Nick sitting back handling and dealing with the rare deep shots that occured.

Dan Janman was MVP for scoring and catching lots. And lots.

PS I apologise from being far from saintly with the level and goodness of the puns, and I fully repent of everything I have said just now. I'm no angel people.
