Downing Gryphons 11 - 5 New Thundercatz

[11/05/2012]

Greetings true believers,

Here for your delectation is a (brief -- it's exam term kids) write up of what went down on Parker's Piece when Gryphons took on New Thundercatz. Enjoy!

Final Score: Gryphons 11 - 5 New Thundercatz [despite what video evidence may say to the contrary, god forbid there's ever a leveson enquiry into my inbox when my captaincy's up]

Team: Tejas 'Nope' Guruswamy, Chris 'LOUD NOISES' Barnes, Nick 'Where was the layout?!' SD, Sam 'northern charm' Turner, Julia 'not that one' Roberts, Nick 'watch more [insert cult tv show here]' Owen, Andrew 'buff banner' Tebboth, Ares 'joyeux anniversaire' Meroueh, Tom 'castrati' Talbot, Camilla 'go long!' Longden, James 'You Bastards!' Kenny, Fraser 'lazy lenfield cycle' Elliott, Tom 'bring the clackdown' Claxton, Jess 'I'm in!' Wong, Louis 'faster on water' Bailey and Nuha 'wear new glasses they said' Khan.

So yeah we won. WOOPs are in order. There were some fantastic takes, ridonkulous Ds and some excellent handler movement. Thundercatz had a few threats but over the course of the game just couldn't keep up. We traded the first couple of points then broke away after a lengthy point (point d's endzone drops the lot) and took it to 3-1. Fraser took us to 4 before Thundercatz pulled one back with an impressive take from Beni after a sketchy put. Nick Tsao then managed to mack it within an inch of our endzone and hammer it to Beni closing the gap once more. Our reply was swift, with a thundercatz dropped dump pass just outside their endzone punished accordingly by Sam and Tejas. Fraser saved Chris Barnes' precious bacon next point as one of our own dump passes went horribly wrong, before SD put a nice ranging shot into the Thundercatz endzone leaving Jess Wong to calmly snatch it out of the grasp of like three Thundercatz players -- mmhhmmmm.

We proceeded to take half at 7-3 and were looking good feeling fine etc. A lengthy point later and Thundercatz pulled one back after a bit of a blip from our handlers which was nearly a callahan (tejas says: if you start an up-the-line cut, finish it and clear out into the stack even if you're marked the entire time. by continuing you are creating space behind you for the front of stack to help out. if you stop your cut midway and go back, you've wasted 5 seconds and we're back to square one. cue turnover.) ... Sam kindly skied Nick Tsao next point to make it 8-4 however. A point D from Tej upped our baws levels further. Jess took us to nine and then a nice break from Chris Barnes to a stupendously free Tom Talbot took us to 10-4. Time went here I believe, and we came out with a Clam D which didn't perform spectacularly well, partly down to the fact we didn't force middle enough, and numerous breaks and a good take from Tsao shredded our D. We came out determined to FINISH THIS next point, with a sky high put from Ares being taken down by Tebs in spectacular fashion. The guy looked like this when he landed, it was pretty baller. The birthday boy (Ares) took down the final disc off a break from Tej, winning us the game.
