DCU 3 - ARU 10

05/11/14
MVP: Hannah Pullen

Match Report:

Conditions today were very windy which made throwing/catching very difficult, particularly for beginners, but our freshers coped amazingly! We had a very large squad in the end with more than 2 full lines. The majority of ARU had played for 2 years at least - in fact i don’t think they had any freshers - so we did very well given the circumstances.

Downwind we played virt stack and zone (first time playing zone for ~60% of our team and it worked surprisingly well!). Upwind we ho-stacked and man-Ded. ARU had far more women than us due to the standard ‘wednesday afternoon off for sport’ thing that Cambridge ignores and so we were occasionally forced to 6 and Hannah had to iron women most of the match until Humaira came.

Points were scored by Tom Perkins, Ravi (lovely end zone jump grab) and Humaira! There were also some great catches of ARU’s attempted Ds!

All in all the score line doesn’t reflect how close each point was and all DCU players should be proud of their performance. Unfortunately our loss, via point difference , takes us from 2/4 in our group to 4/4 but not to worry! Our main aim for Michaelmas is fresher development and you’re all doing REALLY well! If we continue to train and throw on the paddock we will become a very strong team indeed!
