The first thing i saw on Thursday the 5th December as i left my room was a panicked Clackers, muttering something about being late. When someone as prompt and punctual as Clackers is late, you know it’s not going to be your average day. Perhaps this was an omen of things to come…
With an initial seeding of 12/13, things could only get better(/worse for the pedants out there). DCU arrived at Churchill pitches in force, with a strong mentality and clear heads. Meanwhile, I was enjoying myself chatting to the porters as we tried to fix the horrendously dodgy bike i had borrowed, which failed me just past Nanna Mexico. Luckily, we all got there in time for the first match against Thundercatz 1sts. Folks arrived and left at different times during the day, but with a net positive flux we were able to maintain a full team and a good number of subs. As predicted by the Met Office, it was pretty bloody windy. A 5m forehand was seen as fairly ambitious and a 10m pull from Tejas said it all. Thundercatz gained a 1-0 lead with little time to spare but we were able to come back and secure the draw. At this point I had to leave but i am told the 2 matches played in my absence yielded losses. Take from that what you will.
Whilst away i collected the hair spray and face paint that Mark had earlier forgotten and listened to Haniff say ‘annulus’ in a creepy voice, far too many times. I returned to find DCU in an epic battle against Jesus (the college team, not the alleged son of god). The wind on this pitch was particularly bad with the majority of play occurring in one corner. Unfortunately, George’s brave backhands were more than we could handle and Jesus took the win.
It was only in the Chrembroke match though that shit got real, with some points essentially being reenactments of scenes from ’The Day After Tomorrow’ and ’Sharknado’. Potential soundtracks included:

It was good to see some fresher appearances, though brief. Highlights included another power slide from Luke and points scored by Sam and Hussain:

We ended the day in 10th position, which i consider a success since we beat our seed by 2 positions. We managed to keep moral high all day despite the weather, and i thought everyone played very well - we definitely deserved the GBK that followed. I arrived home to find an email from Marls saying well done ‘especially in this weather’ to which i replied:

I was going to finish the report with a Haiku, but after no responses to the previous one, I am taking a leaf from Kendrick Lamar’s book, and saying: ‘Fuck that’ .
Frove, have a good xmas holiday and see you next term!
