MVP: Tasha Smith!
DCU had a strong start to the season, winning our first match against Chrembroke House.
We had a great turnout; Ravi turned up quite drunk, classic Ravi. Famelton (aka Fammy) was getting worried when he was the only one there, drowning in a sea of DCU, but eventually more of them started turning up, and we were able to start the game with 6 of them (and 16 of us). With one man down, we played against a zone (FSU), and were able to break through it quite quickly, with many people able to find space and keep the flow going. They eventually got two more players to come and play, which helped even things out. It was a great match even though everyone was a little rusty after the Christmas break, with a few unlucky drops (yes you, Callum Church) and a couple of very long points (which made the sideline cold tyvm). We also managed a few quick scores! YAY US, For most of the game, we played a Ho stack (3, 4), which seemed to be working quite well for us. There were a few nice hucks into the endzone some of which actually completed (others not so much), with an amazing hammer from Joey Reiness. We saw some really nice Ds from Tasha Smith and Ben Kilkelly. Also well done for everyone who ran for those endzone hucks, attempting to layout. Special mention goes to Mick Grierson for scoring the last point! Tasha Smith was most valuable player. Also special mention to Fammy with amazing grabs (I swear he has glue on his fingers) and nice hucks to the tall guy.
The cycle back involved Joey's legs being challenged. #doyouevenlegpressbruh. He accepted the challenge of cycling up that dreaded mountain on a Brompton meant for someone much smaller than him. Joey conquered that mountain with grace and agility. Well done Joey.
A couple of things we should work on for the match this weekend:
Tighter D - remember to watch the disc as well as your man.
Not crowding the Endzone - clear out of the space if you don’t get the disc.
